West Virginia Real Estate License Requirements

Learn about the West Virginia education requirements for real estate licensing and renewal.

Licensing Board/Commission: West Virginia Real Estate Commission

West Virginia Real Estate Education Requirements:

Many students take advantage of exam prep tailored for their state, to give them a higher chance of passing.

West Virginia State Reciprocity:

Real estate commissions and boards across the country are adopting policies for a real estate agent in one state to more easily become licensed in another state.

In 2017 the West Virginia Real Estate Commission moved to eliminate all reciprocal agreements that allow full reciprocity between West Virginia and the counterpart state.

Out-of-state licensees who wish to obtain a West Virginia real estate license (salesperson or broker), must pass the West Virginia–specific portion of the licensing examination, in addition to the current requirements.  The Commission no longer processes out-of-state applications or issues licenses to out-of-state candidates.

West Virginia Real Estate Continuing Education (CE) and License Renewal Requirements:

  • Real estate professionals in West Virginia must renew their real estate licenses by December 14 of even-numbered years
  • In each two-year cycle, licensees need to complete 7 hours of elective real estate CE classes
