New York Requirement Details for Real Estate Continuing Education – Broker and Sales License
Continuing Education and License Renewal Date:
Every two years by the exact day of your license anniversary date
Hours Required By The State:
22.5 hours every two years
- 2 hours implicit bias (effecitve 9/21/2022)
- 2 hours cultural competency (effective 9/21/2022)
- 3 hours fair housing
- 2.5 hours ethical business practices
- 1 hour legal matters
- 1 hour agency (2 agency hours for initial license renewal)
- 11 elective hours
Effective 9/21/2022: Any real estate licensee submitting an application for renewal for a license expiring on or after September 21, 2022 must successfully complete 22.5 hours of approved continuing education including 2 hours implicit bias and 2 hours cultural competency.
Seat Time:
The New York Department of Real Estate requires that all students spend a minimum amount of seat time engaged in the course content. The online course delivery system manages this requirement for you.

Reporting:
New York is an audit state that does not require course completions to be reported by education providers. Licensees must keep copies of their course completions in the event they are audited. Licensees can download a copy of course certificates from our website at any time.
Expiration Date of Course:
Per New York Department of State requirements, courses must be completed within 12 months of enrollment. Each course has an individual expiration date which is listed in your account.
Final Exams:
Final exams must be passed with at least a 75% and may be taken as many times as necessary in order to pass.
Certificates:
The CE Shop will provide you with an electronic Certificate of Completion upon completion of the course. Certificates will remain in your account for a minimum of five years, should you need additional copies. Please refer to your license renewal application to determine if you need to submit your Certificate of Completion with your license renewal request. Course completion dates are recorded using Central Standard Time. Please note that the date on your Certificate of Completion will reflect this.

The process to renew in this state is to log in to the licensing system online and follow the prompts to renew.
