Hawaii State Requirement Details for Real Estate Continuing Education
Renewal Date: 11/30 every even-numbered year. Please note: all CE courses and the license renewal application must be completed by this date in order to stay active. If a license has lapsed and was put into inactive status, the 2 core courses from the previous cycle must be completed prior to regaining an active status.
Hours Required: 20 hours
- 6 hours – Core hours
- 14 hours – Elective hours
Note: A licensee who is issued a Hawaii real estate salesperson license during an even-numbered year shall be deemed to have completed equivalent to the continuing education hours as required by section 467-11.5, HRS, and section 16-99-90.
Course Duplication: A Hawaii real estate licensee can repeat the same CE course every other biennium. A licensee shall not take a continuing education course for which the licensee has already received a certificate within two consecutive biennia. For make-up credits, for example, if a licensee took a course in 2015 (2015-2016 biennium) and wants the course marked as make-up and credited to the 2013-2014 biennium, the biennium in which they first took the course is the marker to determine two consecutive biennia. That biennium marker is the 2015-2016 biennium. The licensee may then take the same course in the 2019-2020 biennia.

Reporting: The state requires schools to report course completions within ten days from the course completion date. Course completions will be reported within this time frame.
Expiration Date of Course: Course expiration dates vary by course but are generally one year after order date. Each individual course will have an expiration date listed in your account.
Final Exams: Passing a final exam is not required to receive continuing education credit in Hawaii, therefore our system is set up so that final exams can be passed with a 0% passing score.
Certificates: If you want or need to print the Certificate of Completion issued by the Hawaii Real Estate Commission, you will need to wait until the end of the next business day AFTER you have completed your course. Go to the HI website to print that certificate.
If you are trying to reactivate or restore your license you will need to send the Hawaii Real Estate Commission certificate to Hawaii with your paperwork. Please refer to your renewal application to determine if you need to submit your Certificate(s) of Completion with your renewal. Course completion dates are recorded using Central Standard Time. Please note that the date on your Certificate of Completion will reflect this.
Hawaii License Renewal Process: The process to renew in this state is to log in to the licensing system online and follow the prompts to renew.
