Kentucky State Requirement Details for Real Estate Continuing Education

Renewal Date: 3/31 every two years

Continuing Education Deadline: 12/31 each year

Hours Required: 12 hours every 2 years (6 hours per year)

Six (6) of the twelve (12) hours shall be completed in the first year of the biennial license period or the licensee shall be automatically cancelled. 

  • 6 hours – Law hours
  • 6 hours – Elective hours

NOTE: Kentucky requires a state specific continuing education course - the Kentucky Core Course - to be completed by all active licensees subject to continuing education once every four (4) years. No other continuing education course will substitute for the Kentucky Core Course. The Core Course will satisfy the 3-hour law + 3-hour elective requirements for licensees in the year that it is taken. 

Seat Time: The Kentucky Real Estate Commission requires that all students spend a minimum about of seat time engaged in the course content. Our online course delivery system manages this requirement for you.

Reporting: The state requires schools to report course completions within ten days from the course completion date. Course completions will be reported within this time frame.

Expiration Date of Course: Course expiration dates vary by course but are generally one year after order date. Each individual course will have an expiration date listed in your account. 

Final Exams: Final exams must be passed with at least a 75% and may be taken as many times as necessary in order to pass.

Certificates: Immediately upon real estate course completion, The CE Shop will provide students with an electronic copy of the course certificate of completion. Certificates will remain in your account for a minimum of five years, should you need additional copies at a later time. Please refer to your renewal application to determine if you need to submit your certificate(s) of completion with your renewal. Course completion dates are recorded using Central Standard Time. Please note that the date on your certificate of completion will reflect this.

License Renewal Process: The process to renew in this state is to log in to the licensing system online and follow the prompts to renew. 

From March 1st to March 31st, licensees can renew their license. Active licensees cannot renew until their principal broker has completed his/her renewal.
