Utah Real Estate License Requirements

Learn about the Utah education needs for real estate licensing and renewal.

Licensing Board/Commission: Utah Department of Commerce – Utah Real Estate Commission

Utah Real Estate Education Requirements:

  • Utah real estate salesperson license: 120 hours of pre-licensing education
  • Utah real estate broker license: 120 hours (This includes the 30-hour Utah Law course, the 45-hour Broker Principles (Fundamentals) course and the 45-hour Broker Practices course.)

Many students take advantage of exam prep tailored for their state, to give them a higher chance of passing.

Utah State Reciprocity:

Real estate commissions and boards across the country are adopting policies for a real estate agent in one state to more easily become licensed in another state.

Utah currently has reciprocity agreements with Georgia, Mississippi and Alberta, Canada.

For more information on reciprocity, view our complete guide.

Utah Real Estate Continuing Education (CE) and License Renewal Requirements:

  • Real estate professionals in Utah must renew their real estate licenses every two years in the month their licenses were received
  • Licensees must complete 18 hours of real estate CE classes (9 hours of which must be core courses) by the 15th of the month of expiration in order to renew on time without incurring a $50 late fee
